Community Partnership Hosts 1st Convener’s Cafe`


On Thursday, November 20, over 20 community leaders came together to participate in a focused conversation model we called the Convener’s Café. Each of the participants were those who convene or have responsibility for collaboratives, coalitions, or other initiatives involving multiple partners.  The purpose of the meeting was to provide a space for building awareness of Macon’s many great initiatives, and to explore how these initiatives may work together to maximize overall impact in Macon.

IMG_2382Members of the Community Partnership board of directors acted as table coaches for small group discussions which were held over lunch.  The table coaches facilitated conversation around the following questions:

  1. Having heard everyone’s brief introduction, what surprised you or stood out to you? 
  2. What do you think all these groups have in common, or have to do with one another?
  3. What about your collaborative structure or methodology has worked well??
  4. What training, technical assistance, or other information would make your job easier as a collaborative leader or convener?
  5. What would be the value of continuing to network as collaborative leaders?
  6. Who else should at this meeting? Who is missing from today’s conversation?


After small group conversation, each table reported to the larger group.

Some of the ideas that came out of the discussion were that collaborative leaders needed a consistent means of communication among them, where each could get information about new programs and resources as they become available; that collaborative leaders would benefit from more opportunities to come together to learn about each other and to explore topics of interest such as Family Engagement, Economic Development, Data Sharing and Evaluation.  Participants also stated that trust-building was an important part of the experience.

The next Convener’s Café will be held in January.  Date and location TBA.  Stay tuned for more results!
